Plant a Tree

“No matter where you go in life, always unpack your bags and plant your trees…
maybe you won’t be there to eat the fruit from those tress, but someone else will.”
~Ruth Van Reken, quoting her father Charles

In August 2021, we planted a tree to provide some shade on the playground. We chose an Inga tree because they are fast growing, and also provide fruit that the students love to eat.

Here is the tree in the Fall of 2022.

In September 2023…

In October 2023 we see out first pod.

Here is the tree in February 2024 – with fruit that is ready to eat!

Also called an “ice-cream-bean” – the pods contain an edible white cotton-candy-like fluff that covers each seed inside.

Standing in the shade while eating our first pod!
